City of Bryan-Special Events
Though my internship's main focus was Parks and Recreation with some Tourism aspects, a sizable portion of my internship also involved event planning. July 2015 was the City of Byan's Park and Recreation month. To celebrate, the City of Bryan had 3 special events: 2 movies in the park and 1 "Dive-in-Movie," or in other words, a movie that is shown poolside at Henderson Harbor, one of the City of Bryan's community pools. The other interns and I helped during the 2 movies in the park and then fully planned the final "Dive-in-Movie," so not only did I get experience in municipal Parks and Recreation and Tourism, but I also gained event planning experience.

Special Events Planned
"The Goonies"
• Held on July 7th at 6:30 pm
• Location: Tanglewood Park in Bryan • I was in charge of crafts: coloring pages and construction paper pirate hats |
"Paddington"
• Held on July 13th at 6:30 pm
• Location: Villa West Park in Bryan • I had no specific duty; I helped pass out popcorn and make "Paddington" themed popcorn bags |
"Surfs Up"
• Held o July 21st at 6:30 pm
• Location: Henderson Harbor Pool in Bryan • Prior to the movie, I was in charge of almost the entirety of the event. I kept in contact with Gwynne Shillings who is in charge of Special Events and Marketing for the City of Bryan. • With help from the other interns, I chose what games would be played, what prizes would be given out, where the screen would be located, and how many staff we would need for the event. |
• I hand made a game--Penguin bowling. with felt and 2 liter water bottles I created pins that looked like penguins and a ball that looked like a snowball that the children would use to knock over the penguin pins for a prize. • The movie was a success and made around $400 for the City of Bryan! |
**We were not allowed to have our phones during events, so pictures of any events are limited. Contact Gwynne Shillings at [email protected] if further proof is needed**
